Stephen Langsner called the meeting to order at 2:30 P.M.
- The minutes for September 26, 2008 were approved.
- Course Change Proposals:
- Undergraduate and School of Law course change proposals (Tables A and D) were approved without opposition and forwarded for the November 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
- Graduate course and Dual course change proposals (Tables B and C) were approved without opposition and will forwarded for the November 2008 Graduate Council meeting.
- Old Business:
The vote on undergraduate course change ANSC 4163 which had been conducted by e-mail vote was reported to be 11 for and 1 against by William Warnock. The course will be forwarded for the November 2008 Graduate Council meeting.
- New Business:
- Proposed undergraduate program change for the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences – Department of Food Science – (Table One, Attachment 1A) was presented by Donna Graham. The program change requested to require students to complete both FDSC 4203 and FDSC 4413 instead of the option to chose only one and reduced the elective hours from 18 to 15 hours for the Food Science Concentration. For the Food Technology Concentration, FDSC4303 was added as a required course and the elective hours reduced from 18 to 15 hours. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the November 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
- Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – Department of Curriculum and Instruction, ELELBS – BSE, Elementary Education (Table Two, Attachment 2A) was presented by Betsy Orr. The program change requested to drop ARED 3603 as a requirement and change the entrance requirements for the program. There was considerable discussion concerning the changes in entrance requirements and since no one was present to describe the reasoning for the change, the proposal was tabled.
- Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance - HLSCBS – BSE, Health Science (Table Two, Attachment 2B) was presented by Betsy Orr. The program change requested to eliminate the three hour computer course requirement and add three hours of electives. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the November 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
- Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance – KINSBS – BSE, Kinesiology – Exercise Science, Concentration II and III (Table Two, Attachment 2C) was presented by Betsy Orr. The program change requested to eliminate the three hour Media/Computer requirement and add three hours of electives. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the November 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
- Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance – KINSBS – BSE, Kinesiology - Exercise Science, Concentrations II and III (Table Two, Attachment 2D) was presented by Betsy Orr. The program change requested to allow students the option of taking HNED 4003H in place of either KINS4903 or KINS405V. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the November 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
- Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance – RECRBS– BSE, Recreation (Table Two, Attachment 2E) was presented by Betsy Orr. The program change requested to eliminate the three hour Media/Computer requirement and add three hours of electives. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the November 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
- Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – Mann School of Nursing – NURSBS – BSN, Nursing (Table Two, Attachment 2F) was presented by Betsy Orr. The program change requested several changes to program admission policy which would require background checks and drug screening. Also included were changes in the academic progression requirements. The proposal was approved with the provision that wording concerning having students withdraw from the program be changed to be dismissed by the program when students fail to meet progression requirements. The suggested wording was forwarded to the Nursing program that concurred with the changes. The program change with editorial changes will be forwarded for the November 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
- Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Rehabilitation, Human Resources and Communication Disorders – WDEDME – MED, Workforce Development Education, Vocational Education Concentration (Table Three, Attachment 3A and Attachment 3B) was presented by Betsy Orr. The program change requested to eliminate the concentration. The program change was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the November Graduate Council meeting.
- Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction – EDUCME – MED, Education, (Table Three, Attachment 3C and Attachment 3D) was presented by Betsy Orr. The program change requested to eliminate the degree. The program change was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the November Graduate Council meeting.
- Other Business: None
