Stephen Langsner called the meeting to order at 2:30 P.M.

  1. The minutes for October 24, 2008 were approved.
  2. Course Change Proposals:
    1. Undergraduate and School of Law course change proposals (Tables A and D) were approved without opposition and forwarded for the December 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
    2. Graduate course and Dual course change proposals (Tables B and C) were approved without opposition and will forwarded for the December 2008 Graduate Council meeting.
    3. Courses with no Enrollment in the last five years – to remain active – Table E - was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the December 2008 Graduate Council meeting.
    4. Courses with no Enrollment in the last five years – to be inactivated – Table F - was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the December 2008 Graduate Council meeting.
  3. Old Business:

    Proposed undergraduate program change that was tabled during the October 24, 2008 meeting for the College of Education and Health Professions – Department of Curriculum and Instruction – ELELBS – BSE, Elementary Education (Table 2, Attachment 2A) was removed from consideration by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The proposal was resubmitted under a different program proposal change.
  4. New Business:
    1. Items (a) through (r) were presented by Chuck Adams as a group. The committee was asked if any item needed to be removed and considered separately. No item was pulled from the grouping. The items are listed below: 
      1. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Fulbright Interdisciplinary Studies – Combined Major in Asian Studies (Table 1, Attachment 1A and Attachment 1B). Proposal requested the addition of a new combined major in Asian Studies.
      2. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Fulbright Deans Office – All Bachelor of Arts Degrees (Table 1, Attachment 1C). Proposal requested to add MATH 2033 as an option for the upper level Fulbright core mathematics requirement.
      3. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Art – ARTBFA – BFA, Art – ARED Concentration (Table 1, Attachment 1D).  Proposal requested to require ARED 3613 and move course offerings in the eight semester plan.
      4. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Art – ARTBFA – BFA, Art (Table 1, Attachment 1E). Proposal requested to modify standards for remaining in the BFA degree program.
      5. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Art – ART-M – Minor in Art Studio (Table 1, Attachment 1F and Attachment 1G). Proposal requested to eliminate the minor in Studio Art.
      6. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – School of Social Work – SCWKBA – BSW, Social Work (Table 1, Attachment 1H). Proposal requested to allow Math 2033 to serve as a Fulbright core mathematics requirement.
      7. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Biological Sciences – BIOLBA, Biology (Table 1, Attachment 1I). Proposal requested to remove BIOL 2504 and replace it with BIOL 4404 as the Morphology area requirement.
      8. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry – CHEMBS - BS, Chemistry - International Option (Table 1, Attachment 1J). Proposal requested to insert a statement regarding the English proficiency requirement of the Atlantis program.
      9. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Communication – COMMBA – BA, Communication (Table 1, Attachment 1K). Proposal requested that a grade of “C” or better be earned in each of the following courses: COMM 2333, 3343, 3443, and 3673. Also, that a grade of “C” or better be earned for the research paper used to satisfy the Senior Writing Requirement.
      10. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of History – HISTBA – BA, History (Table 1, Attachment 1 L). Proposal requested changes to the course listing for the 36 hours of history courses required for the major.
      11. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Fulbright College Honors Studies (Table 1, Attachment 1M). Proposal requested changes to the Four-Year Scholars curriculum which gives students the choice between honors and non-honors courses, with a minimum amount of honors credits in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.
      12. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Fulbright Interdisciplinary Studies – Combined Major in Latin American Studies (Table 1, Attachment 1N). Proposal requested to add many courses to the option area and change the name of the combined major to Latin American and Latino Studies.
      13. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Fulbright Interdisciplinary Studies – LAST-M – Minor in Latin American Studies (Table 1, Attachment 1O and Attachment 1P). Proposal requested to change the name of the minor in Latin American Studies to Latin American and Latino Studies.
      14. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Political Science – LGST-M – Minor in Legal Studies (Table 1, Attachment 1Q). Proposal requested that the total required credit hours be reduced from 18 to 15 and the courses PLSC 3242, 4253, and 4263 no longer be required.
      15. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Political Science – PADMBS – BS, Public Administration (Table 1, Attachment 1R and Attachment 1S). Proposal requested to eliminate the BS in Public Administration.
      16. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Mathematics – MATH-M – Minor in Mathematics (Table 1, Attachment 1T). Proposal requested that MATH 3093 be allowed as an option to MATH 3083 for the Minor in Mathematics requirement
      17. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Mathematics – MATHBA – BA, Mathematics (Table 1, Attachment 1U). Proposal requested that MATH 3093 be allowed as an option to MATH 3083 for the Mathematics BA degree.
      18. Proposed undergraduate program change for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – Department of Mathematics – MATHBS – BS, Mathematics (Table 1, Attachment 1V). Proposal requested that MATH 3093 be allowed as an option to MATH 3083 for the Mathematics BS degree.
      All items passed without any opposition and will be forwarded for the December Faculty Senate meeting.
    2. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – Department of Curriculum and Instruction, ELELBS – BSE, Elementary Education (Table Two, Attachment 2B) was presented by Tom Smith. The program change requested to drop ARED 3603 and replace it with CIED 4113, and change the entrance requirements from a 2.5 to a 2.7 for the program. The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the December 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
    3. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance - HLSCBS – BSE, Health Science (Table Two, Attachment 2C) was presented by Steve Langsner. The program change requested to change chemistry and English course options for electives.  The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the December 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
    4. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance – KINSBS – BSE, Kinesiology – P-12 Concentration (Table Two, Attachment 2D) was presented by Susan Mayes. The program change requested to clarify requirements for the student internship cohort and several course options.  The proposal was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the December 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
    5. Proposed undergraduate program change for the College of Education and Health Professions – Mann School of Nursing – NURSBS – BSN, Nursing (Table Two, Attachment 2E) was presented by Nancy Smith-Blair. The program change requested to modify requirements for the Biology and Chemistry course work. The program change was approved without opposition and be forwarded for the December 2008 Faculty Senate meeting.
    6. Proposed graduate program change for the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness – AGECMS – MS, Agricultural Economics (Table Three, Attachment 3A and Attachment 3B) was presented by Bruce Ahrendsen and Steve Halbrook. The program change requested the addition of a new option as part of a joint venture with a consortium of six universities in the E. U. and the University of Florida. The program change was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the December Graduate Council meeting.
    7. Proposed graduate program change for the Graduate Interdisciplinary Studies – PUBPPH– PhD, Public Policy (Table Three, Attachment 3C and Attachment 3D) was presented by Brinck Kerr. The program change requested to add a new concentration, Policy Studies in Aging.  The program change was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the December Graduate Council meeting.
    8. Proposed graduate program change for the Graduate Interdisciplinary Studies – Graduate Certificate Program - Preparing for the Professoriate (Table Three, Attachment 3E and Attachment 3F) was presented by Steve Langsner. The program change requested to add a new graduate level certificate, Preparing for the Professoriate.  The program change was approved without opposition and will be forwarded for the December Graduate Council meeting.
