GRADUATE COUNCIL AGENDA

at 2:00 p.m.
Old Main 523

PLEASE NOTE UNUSUAL DATE AND LOCATION

  2. Announcements
  3. Reports from the Academic Appeals Subcommittee and the Teaching Assistant Effectiveness Committee.
  4. Old Business: None
  5. New Business, Program Changes:
    1. Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Foreign Languages, proposal to change the name to Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; and to replace the alpha code of FLAN with WLLC (Attachment A and Attachment B).
    2. College of Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering, proposal to eliminate the Master of Science in Operations Research degree (ORESMS) (Attachment C and Attachment D).
  6. Continuing discussion of the proposal to allow graduate faculty status to remain active (without the designation of T for temporary) after a faculty member retires. Current Graduate School/Graduate Council policy requires that faculty who retire lose their graduate faculty status. If they are already sitting on student committees, and the necessary paperwork is on file in the Graduate School, nothing currently needs to be done to remain on those committees. However, if a faculty member chooses to mentor new students or serve on new advisory committees or teach graduate level classes after retirement, he/she must apply for graduate faculty status in his/her new role as emeritus faculty. The graduate faculty status is conferred with a T for temporary.
  7. Graduate faculty recommendations for faculty: A preliminary list is attached (Attachment E). A complete list will be distributed at the meeting.
  8. Other Business
