The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by Chair Patricia Koski

  1. Minutes for the May 21, 2009, Graduate Council meeting stand approved, as no changes were suggested.  The minutes may be found at http://www.uark.edu/depts/gradinfo/dean/gradcouncil/minutes/index.html.
  2. Professor Koski thanked the departing members of the Graduate Council for their service:  Don Finn (WCOB); Barbara Hinton (EDUC, ex officio); Claretha Hughes (EDUC); Douglas James (ARSC); Brinck Kerr (INTD); Michael Thomsen (AFLS).
  3. Professor Koski reported that the Academic Appeals Subcommittee did not meet in June.
  4. There was no old business.
  5. New Business: Program Changes/Creations
    1. Professor B. Hinton presented a proposal from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction to delete the Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Special Education (SPEDMA) (Attachment A and Attachment B).  The proposal was approved and will go next to the Faculty Senate (in September), the Board of Trustees (BOT) and Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE).
    2. Professors D. Gorman and M. Moiseichik presented proposals from the Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance to change the name of the M.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees in Recreation to Recreation and Sport Management, with a concomitant change in the degree and course code from RECR to RESME (RESMEME and RESMED) (Attachment C, Attachment D, Attachment E and Attachment F).  Following discussion, the proposal was approved and will go next to the Faculty Senate (in September), BOT and ADHE.
    3. Professor B. Hinton presented a proposal from the Department of Rehabilitation, Human Resources and Communication Disorders to delete the Ed.S. degree in Counselor Education (CNEDES) (Attachment G and Attachment H).  Following discussion, the proposal was approved and will go next to the Faculty Senate (in September), BOT and ADHE.
  6. Professor Koski removed HNED 4913H from the course list in Attachment I and the Council approved the remaining course changes from the University Course and Programs Committee.
  7. The Council approved the graduate faculty requests contained in Attachment J.

There being no other business, the Council adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
