Doctoral Candidate Joins Other Photographers in June Exhibit: 'Meet-the-Artists' Reception June 14

University of Arkansas public policy doctoral candidate, Barbara Warner, will join with two other Siloam Springs, Ark., artists to exhibit her photographs in June, in a show called “Trilogy: Told in Three Parts.” The exhibit runs June 1-30 at Ozark Natural Foods, 1554 N. College Ave., in Fayetteville. A meet-the-artists' reception with refreshments will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 14. Viewing hours are 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Mon.-Sat., 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

Curriculum and Instruction Graduate Student Wins International Culture Team Award

Carole Lee, a doctoral student in curriculum and instruction, was named the Outstanding New Member of the Year by the International Culture Team at the University of Arkansas for 2008-09.

Lee, a native of Hong Kong, also received an Arkansas Traveler certificate from Gov. Mike Beebe’s office. The Arkansas Traveler certificate is a ceremonial honor commissioning Lee to serve as an ambassador of good will from Arkansas to the people of other states and other nations.

Civil Engineering Students Tie for First Place in State Competition

Civil engineering students from the University of Arkansas tied with each other for first place in their two divisions at the Annual Arkansas Water Environment Federation & American Water Works Association Student Presentation Competition in Hot Springs this April.

Ashley Pifer and Josh Durham tied for first place in the Wastewater category. Ashley’s presentation was titled "Municipal Biosolids Drying Options." Josh’s presentation was titled "Toxic Impact of Commercial Biocides on Industrial Wastewater Treatment Systems." They received $350 each for their achievements.

Annette Porter and Charles Cullen tied for first place in the Drinking Water category. Annette’s presentation is titled "Treatment of Wastewater for Direct Reuse in Cloudcroft, N.M." Charles’ presentation is titled "A Review of Low-Cost Treatment Technologies to Help Meet Pending SDWA Regulations in Small Communities." They received $300 for their achievements.


Physics Graduate Student Receives Sigma Xi Harvey Award

Haibin Wu, department of physics at the University of Arkansas, was awarded the Aubrey E. Harvey Graduate Research Award by the UA Chapter of Sigma Xi. The cash award was established in honor of Dr. Harvey in recognition of his contributions to the graduate program at the University of Arkansas. Haibin Wu was nominated by Dr. Gea-Banacloche (Physics) for work with Dr. Gea-Banacloche and Dr. Min Xiao. That research has led to seven publications in international journals. New or existing graduate student members can be nominated for this award during every spring. A listing of past winners of the award is available for review.
