Graduate School Enrollment at University of Arkansas Grows, Sets Record

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Graduate School enrollment at the University of Arkansas totaled 3,407 students for the fall 2009 semester, an increase of 6.7 percent, and the highest number of graduate students in the university’s history. An additional 157 students are seeking a master’s degree, a 7.4 percent increase, and 67 more students enrolled to pursue doctoral degrees, an increase of 6.4 percent. In addition, 209 students are enrolled and taking graduate courses but are not seeking a degree, a 17.4 percent increase compared to the fall of 2008.

Opportunity for Senior and Graduate Students to Study in Europe

The University has just received the second year funding from the U.S. Department of Education's Atlantis Program to support students to study for a semester at the University of Gent, Belgium; Karl-Franzens University,Graz, Austria or Toulouse Polytechnic University, France. The grant is entitled 'Integral Valorization of Bioproduction' and will support students for a semester to work on food or non-food crops production or utilization. This includes a wide range of disciplines including, agricultural production, plant science, horticulture, animal science, agricultural economics, chemistry, engineering, bioenergy, biorefining, biomaterials, food science and nutrition.

University of Arkansas Rehabilitation Program Garners Funds to Support Students

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The nationally ranked rehabilitation counseling program at the University of Arkansas will once again be able to fund graduate students’ education through a traineeship award from the Rehabilitation Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Education.
Some graduate students who are beneficiaries say the traineeships made the difference in whether they could pursue careers in rehabilitation.

Journalism Documentary Graduate Student Wins Fellowship

Sarah K. Moore, a Fulbright College graduate student in the documentary program in journalism, has won a $4,000 fellowship in the film/video category from the Arkansas Arts Council. She plans to use the support to finish her thesis project, a documentary about her step-grandfather, a poet and peace activist. Sarah is also a video support specialist at the MultiMedia Resource Center on campus.
